AERO RX-7 ready for season opener

After a successful Test n Tune event last weekend, the AERO Racing Team are all set to take on the rest of the Supercharged Outlaws teams in the opening event at the Perth Motorplex. The "Plex" hosts the first ever ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock event on 31st October, and large fields in all categories have registered to compete.

The AERO RX-7 is the only all Japanese sedan in the Supercharged Outlaws field, and features a highly modified Lexus quad cam V8 that is considerably smaller than the rest of the field at 4.7 liters (282 ci). But the RX-7 has a weight advantage on the larger cars, and with overhead quad cams can rev a little easier and higher. But in Outlaws performance is secondary to good reaction times, and acurate predictions in the dial-your-own style format.

AERO Racing are developing a new CNC billet block for their Lexus, and last weekend's test n tune was another milestone in the development process. The first full pass resulted in a 7.90 @ 172 mph, and the team were more than happy with the result.

"After a half pass, and 1000ft click off, the engine passed it's checks in the pits - so a full pass was in order" said team owner and driver Paul "PC" Carey, "The tune was good - although a little soft, but the car ran well and setting a PB on the first pass was a bonus. The crew were pretty excited on the line."

"Engine builder Ben from Platinum Aviation had the sump off checking bearings during the week and the new block checked out fine. Thats testimony that we have capabilities here in WA to build this kind of high performance gear. Rob from El Es De Engineering, and Dennis from High Speed Engineering are pretty clever guys, and machine work from Niel and Graham at Southside Engine Centre brought it all together"

"We are inovators in our field of aviation, and a lot of the skill sets transfer to drag racing really well. We have three aircraft engineers, and two aircraft maintenance planners on the crew. New sponsors Platinum Aviation who overhaul aircraft engines at their state of the art facility at Jandakot have assembled this new blown alcohol cammer, after putting all the parts through their in-house non destructive testing process".
