April Report 2005     Editor - Paul Carey
Thanks to event sponsorship by Kulbardi Aboriginal Centre at Murdoch University, we fronted for the last National Open meeting for the 2004/2005 season here in Perth on 9th April, and had brilliant weather for the day. Zap rattled off a 6.11 @ 239.36 in the Rat and 8 other national records were reset on the day due to sub 1,000ft air. I had changed the fuel system to take advantage of our past evidence and runs and was looking forward to better times.

First three runs for the day were less than ordinary, due to driver error. Three red lights, a burst panel and generally running much slower than the previous meeting. The crew were offered a drive. No takers, so off to get advice from Zap. "Stick the 9.3 tune back in and get your act together" were the wise words - so we did exactly that.

First round elimination was up against the Glovers little blown 13B Datto - a fierce competitor when the wheelstanding beast is on song. We dialed in a 9.35 against Bretts 8.85. I left hard and by 1,000ft could not see Brett, so hit the brake hard a couple of times and cruised through first. Unfortunately we broke out big time with a 9.169 @ a slowing 141.95mph.

So it was the dreaded first round lose, even though the team was happy with the PB. We turned the car around and lined up for a grudgy later in the night. I managed a burnout past the startline to get practice for Drag Combat, and rattled of another PB 9.113 @ 150.25mph.

The 2004/2005 National Open season provided a promising start for the team and the car. We managed to licence the car in the first two meetings, and finished 19th out of 58 in the very tough Super Sedan championship with the remaining meetings. We finished 9th in Rookie Driver of the Year, and got the car down to a reasonable time and speed.

We have one more meeting here in Perth - Drag Combat on 23rd April, then hopefully off to Willowbank for the Jamboree on 17-18th September.
